Minutes of Parent Council AGM Wednesday 26th May 2010


 

1. Welcome & Apologies

Present: Sarah Keer-Keer (SKK); Alex Fletcher (AF) (minutes), John Phillips (JP), Anna Hulton (AH), Nicky Wells; Julie Owenson; Bob Ross (RR); Dorothy Denham (DD)

2. Minutes of AGM May 2009

These minutes have been lost.

3. Matters Arising

None

4. Treasurer’s Report

A report on the accounts prepared by MT was tabled and a copy attached to these minutes.

An account has been opened with Bank of Scotland, Dalkeith branch.  No monies are held.

5. Selection of new Parent Council and Office Bearers

 

CW, AF, MT, and SKK resigned their current posts.

The following appointments were proposed and seconded

Vice Chair – John Phillips

Secretary – Claire Witney

Treasurer – Anna Hulton

Ordinary Members – Suzanne Rowe, Mark Turner, Nicky Wells, Julie Owenson

 

 

6. Report on the work of the Parent Council

Recruitment – recruitment and selection training for Parent Council members has taken place.

Playground Improvements – DD reported the ‘no mow’ area has been reseeded with long grass; the wild flower are has been seeded; 30 trees have been planted along fence line; SKK will request no herbicide spray in future; DD has contacted Brian Smith of Rotary to discuss placing of planters in grounds, to be purchased using enterprise money now and planted up in next session; SKK and DD will price up planters at different garden centres; AH can provide tree seedlings; training of staff and parents for mosaic project has taken place; tiles and other materials sourced by SKK; Sean Lyon kindly did the training and has loaned equipment; children in each area have chosen theme (local wildlife) and then a bird or animal; a design will be created by the children and then a mosaic made for each entrance; the Top Area started their panel this week with parent helpers; it is hoped another panel will be started this term or early next session.

Routes & travel plan –DD is due to meet in June with travel Plan Co-ordinator; this year’s JRSO’s have done a particularly good job.

Reports – it was agreed this year that reports would go out earlier; problems with online reporting system are ongoing; it is hoped reports will be issued by 10 June.

Class lists – a new information sheet for parents regarding composite classes was distributed this year; class lists are due to go out ASAP once teachers for each class are confirmed, hopefully before reports.

Curriculum for Excellence – the Parent Council has received and discussed lots of information on CFE this year. The September open evening will be used to roll out aspects of CFE to the Parent Forum.

Clerk position – this position is still vacant – anyone interested is welcome get in touch with the Parent Council.

 

7. AOCB

Lets – Terry O’Donnell (Fairfield House) has been in touch with the school and has requested that all lets for the next session be requested by 4 June 2010.  RR and DD will give CW a copy of the lets they have planned for the school next session so the PC can plan 2 meetings per term and AGM.  Wednesdays still most convenient day.  Consider start time of 7:30 pm.
