Official Opening Newsletter
I wanted to share with you how wonderful our celebration was yesterday when our school was officially opened by Mr John Swinney, Depute First Minister of Scotland. The day started with our tour guides Eva Longwe and Jack McNae giving Mr Swinney a tour of the school. Our piper Calum piped us into the hall and also welcomed guests on arrival. Our choir sang beautifully as guests arrived and also during the ceremony. Some of our children read out what they most liked about their new school – Nuria, Euan, Orla, Jay, Ceitidh, Nathan, Bella, Callum, Eilidh and Bryce. They read with confidence and clarity. Our two ambassadors Morvern and Isabella presented Mr Swinney with a beautiful book about Rosslyn Chapel. Mr John Campbell the project manager from McLaughlin & Harvey presented the school with £500. We will ask the children for their ideas on what we should spend it on.
Over the last week we have been busy making a video for the opening called: “A Day In the life of Roslin Primary”. Our video crew were supported by Alan Thomson from Midlothian Council. They were Ava, Aidan, Arthur and Indira. This video will now be a lasting legacy for us all to celebrate and remember. The video is now on our website so that all our community can see it.
Finally I would like to thank all the pupils, staff and parents who have supported me to make this day so special. I have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the Chief Executive Dr Grace Vickers, Mary Smith Director of Education, Communities and Economy, Maria Lloyd Head of Education and Nicola McDowell Schools Group Manager as well as from our many guests.
