A Story about Global Warming by Flo

WHO WILL SAVE US?  ASSEMBLY

On friday P3 did an assembly about the arctic and the antarctic. Some people were penguins Evie was Old Wise, Lachlan was Flip, Kieran was Flap and Cassie was Splash, Faith was LittleSte and Courtney was Waddle and we had autocues who were Sophie and Blair. Rauridh was doing the slide show and the others were narrators. We said to stop leaving electricity on when you aren’t using it. We learned about the hole in the ozone layer. A long time ago when Mrs Sloan was a little girl her cousin was one of the first to discover that there was a hole in the Ozone layer. Another name for the ozone layer is the atsmophere. We showed the school posters that we designed. We told the school that the ice was melting in the Arctic and the Antarctic.

We practised the assembly lots of times. It was very long and P3 have been learning about global warming. The hole in the atmosphere is letting in all the sun and the ice is melting and the penguins and polar bears may not be able to live because the fish are dying and penguins eat fish. Penguins and polar bears can’t live without ice, snow and fish,  The hole is getting bigger and bigger.

Everyone can help to save our Planet so that the ice won’t melt.  In the Assembly we were sharing what we were learning with the school so they would help to save the Earth.  All the cars, lorries, buses, trains and motorbikes and aeroplanes make bad gases and the bad gases break up the ozone layer.  The atmosphere is an invisible coat which protects the planet.  To stop the ice melting walk to school and work.  If you can’t, you can go on the bus or cycle or go on your scooter.  Please don’t use that much petrol or fuel.  In the Assembly we were cooperating with each other.  We told the school important information about how to save the penguins and polar bears.

I thought the Assembly was very good.  At first it was a bit scary but we pretended that the audience wasn’t there so we wouldn’t feel scared. We did the story from a book called Who Will Save Us.  At the Assembly the first thing I had to say was “The people burn lots of petrol to run aeroplanes, cars, lorries, buses, trains, boats and motorbikes.”  Then the second thing I said was “bad gases go up in the atmosphere and break up the ozone layer which protects the planet. We  can do something about it and save the Earth”.  When the Assembly was done, I felt amazed.  I thought that was one of the best Assemblies ever.

The Arctic is at the top of the World and the Antarctic is at the bottom of the World.  The penguins live at the bottom of the World in the Antarctic.  The polar bears live at the top of the World in the Arctic.  The Antarctic and Arctic are both freezing places,  the coldest in the World. We want the Arctic and the Antarctic to stay freezing like it is already.  It can’t get warmer than it is now.  We can just use buses instead of cars.  It will save much more fuel or petrol because buses carry much more people in them.  We can stop going in all these things that use petrol and fuel.  Try and not use bad gases.  The trees are fantastic because they soak up all the bad gases and turn it into good gases.

In the Assembly the penguins were very loud and clear when they were doing it.  They had to be loud because they didn’t have a microphone and the narrators did.  Evie had to be loud because she was Old Wise penguin.  Cassie was as well as all the other penguins but Cassie was the loudest except Evie.  It was very hard to do the Assembly. The narrators were loud as well.  The autocue had to hold up signs for the penguins to read out loud.  I wanted to do it to the parents but we couldn’t.  I felt that the Assembly was magnificent and in the play Evie had to tell the penguins important stuff like the Earth has an invisible coat which is called the atmosphere, and she pointed at the slide show with a ruler.
