Modern Christmas Tree – P3

The primary three class have recently been doing a lot of Christmas things.  Today we were put into groups to design and build a ‘modern tree’.  In my group there was Josie and Madeline.  Our group decided we would make our Christmas tree out of junk and would used old paint brushes to make a star.

Our Visit to Roslin War Memorial

On Wednesday 13th of October the class went to Roslin War Memorial. I have written a report to tell you a bit about the Memorial.

How far it is from Roslin School

If you walk through the park out of the school, keep walking till you get to a passage way with a big bush. Then at the end of the passage way youwill be at the Main Road. If you cross the road as if you are going to Rosslyn chapel. You will arrive at the War Memorial. The street it is on is called penicuik Road.

What it looks likes

The Memorial is made of little grey stones. The cross at the top is made up of celtic patterns. The memorial is a trianglar spaced wall. The cross sits on top of the trianglar spaced Wall. On the front of the trianglar wall is loads of men’s names, who died in the (1914-1918) War. Their names are carved on the top part of the memorial. On the bottom of the memorial there are men’s names that died in the second World War (1939- 1945). There were paths beside the memorial and really well looked after flowers. There is a really tall hedge behind the memorial.
Number of men that fought for us
When I counted there were 55 men that fought in the first world war and from the second there were 29 names. I don’t think anyone was related to me. But someone had the same name as my nana and grandad.
How I felt
It was an emotional feeling reading all these names and thinking that they came from the same place as me. They didn’t even have a chance to live their lives.
Thank You
I hope you enjoyed my report and that you will go and see the War Memorial for yourself.

The poppy fields of France

This is a picture to represent what the soldiers saw each day when they were at war in 1914 – 1918 and it made them think of home. It was also the first flower that grew after the war ended.
